Award-winning Affrilachian Poet and Playwright Bianca Lynne Spriggs (Bianca X) Has Signed with Shadelandhouse Modern Press to Publish New Poetry Collection, We’re Still Big Banging
Lexington, Kentucky – Monday, December 9, 2019. Award-winning Affrilachian poet and playwright Bianca Lynne Spriggs (Bianca X) has signed with Shadelandhouse Modern Press to publish a new poetry collection, We’re Still Big Banging, a companion to Spriggs’s collection The Galaxy Is a Dance Floor (Argos Press, 2016).
We’re Still Big Banging interrogates matters of the heart through the lens of the cosmos and natural world as well as the stories people tell one another about how and where we belong. This new collection will take Spriggs’s earlier collection a step further to ask what of us survives our past, our trauma, our exigency, and what can we still recognize of ourselves during soul-retrieval when we have healed not by proxy but by distance, when we no longer identify with who we used to be and are not certain who we are to become. Spriggs says she chose the title We’re Still Big Banging because “at a time where I have never been more aware of my Blackness, of my Woman-ness, of my Otherness, Alan Watts’s description of how the Big Bang resembles an ink splotch spreading to the edge of a page has never been more relevant to my narrative and discipline.”
“We are excited and honored to collaborate with Bianca X, a very talented writer and multidisciplinary artist, to share her new poetry collection with readers.” said Stephanie P. Underwood, Associate Publisher. “Bianca and I have collaborated on the stage in theatre productions in Lexington, Kentucky, and now I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to collaborate on the page to produce her exciting new poetry book.” We’re Still Big Banging is scheduled for release in 2021.
